parkplusio How Turbo Engine works
Turbocharger
A turbocharger is a turbine-driven forced induction device that increases an engine's power output by forcing more air into the combustion chamber. It is essentially a pair of fans connected by a shaft - one fan is powered by exhaust gases exiting the engine and the other fan compresses the air that is drawn into the engine
parkplusio Increased Efficiency
By compressing the air that enters the engine, a turbocharger allows the engine to burn more fuel more efficiently. This results in improved fuel economy and increased power output, which is why turbochargers are commonly used in high-performance cars.
parkplusio Boost Threshold
A turbocharger has a "boost threshold" which is the RPM level at which the turbo begins to spool up and provide a noticeable increase in power. The boost threshold can be adjusted by changing the size of the turbocharger or by using electronic controls to alter the engine's air/fuel mixture.
